Gallagher Street will be closed at the Heuheu Street end for three days next week.  It will still be accessible from Ruapehu Street. The brief closure is to allow contractors to finalise the Heuheu Street upgrade.

The Heuheu Street end of Gallagher Street will be closed from Monday 17 September to Wednesday 19 September to allow Unison to carry out electrical work. Drivers and pedestrians will be able to access Gallagher Street from Ruapehu Street.

The Heuheu Street revitalisation project is in the final stages of completion. Work is continuing on the central crossing, with the middle section of the road still closed. Both the Tongariro Street and Ruapehu Street ends of the street are open.

Strategic Project Manager Andrew Boden says the upgrade is on track. “We are in the final stretches and really appreciate the cooperation the community has shown.  We encourage locals and visitors to show their support to the retailers by continuing to frequent those shops.”

The Heuheu Street upgrade project began in April 2012 and is due to be completed by the end of the month.
