Today we Speak Up! as New Zealand celebrates and pays recognition to the highly skilled yet often unrecognised Speech-language Therapists across the country.

Every day we phonate, resonate, intonate, aeromechanically respirate, morphologically articulate and more just to speak. Should any of these variables be compromised, a Speech-language Therapist would be called in to help.

The New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA) pays tribute to all the wonderful work Speech-Language Therapists carry out every day within our communities.

Patron of NZSTA is Principal Youth Court Judge: Andrew Becroft, who credits SLT with changing his life; “I had a career defining intervention” after receiving therapy for a debilitating stutter.  He now holds a very important position in the justice community, working with the youth of New Zealand.

Kiwi rock legend Chris Knox, who suffered a life altering stroke in 2009, continues to receive  Speech-language Therapy. So you can see therapy is often maintained well after the initial incident.

"Communication is a fundamental human right,” says President of the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists Association: Helen McLauchlan  “[and] speech language therapy awareness week is our chance to Speak Up for and with those who are challenged by communication difficulties."
