Long-distance bus operator nakedbus.com is celebrating its sixth birthday by expanding its business into the domestic tourism market.

The company, which also offers accommodation deals, is this month launching nakedactivites.com, an online service providing customers with not only the opportunity to book travel within New Zealand but also cheap activities in many destinations.

Founder Hamish Nuttall says the typical discount on activities gives travellers up to 20 per cent off the walk-up retail door price.

“Until now it’s actually been quite hard for people to plan a trip away. There’s one site to book your travel, another to find a place to stay and then possibly many more if you want to book activities at your destination. What we’ve been able to do with nakedactivities.com is bring that all together to not only make the process a lot easier but also a lot cheaper,” says Nuttall.

Taking passengers from A to B within New Zealand for as little as $1* has seen the company post solid annual growth figures of 40 per cent a year but it decided there was opportunity to expand the low-cost philosophy into other areas of domestic tourism.

nakedactivities.com would offer travels discounts on attractions such as white water rafting in Rotorua, day trips to Milford Sound to 90 Mile Beach safari’s in Northland.

The expansion plan also builds on custom software already created by the company to manage online bookings and is designed to provide travellers with a cheap, one-stop travel service.

“We’ve put a lot of time into reducing costs so we can deliver really good deals to consumers. We believe that’s ultimately what people want.”

“Taking a trip away for a weekend doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg anymore and we believe that makes an affordable Kiwi holiday accessible to a much larger cross section of society,” Nuttall says.

nakedbus.com operates 33 buses connecting 320 towns and cities throughout the country.
