WELLINGTON CITY

Wellingtonians are being urged to walk to the waterfront or to harbourside vantage points if they want to watch the ANZ fireworks tribute to Olympic gold medal winner Valerie Adams tomorrow (Wednesday 19 September) night.

Wellington City Council's Community Events Coordinator, Rebecca Hardie, says the best way to pay tribute to the athleticism of Valerie - and to avoid potential traffic snarl-ups in the central city - is to either walk or cycle into town or take public transport. If spectators want to drive, they should park away from the waterfront and walk the rest of the way.

Motorists parking at vantage points around the harbour and on surrounding hills should park considerately, safely and legally.

The seven-minute fireworks display - to be staged simultaneously with a similar display in Auckland - is due to start at 7.25pm.

The ceremony in which Valerie receives her gold medal will be broadcast live on a big screen at Frank Kitts Park and will also be live on TV1 and TV3.
