A call has gone out for young people in Lower Hutt to have their say on local government reform.

Child and Young Person Coordinator Matt Renata says in a You Tube video clip that young people need to step up and be heard  if they want to influence the outcome of current local government reform consultation.

“This is the time to have your say,” he told young people.

Amalgamation does not have a lot of interest for young people, he says.

They do not see the impact on them, but Renata believes the provision of services for young people living in Lower Hutt is dependent on decisions made by the council.

Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace said young people living in the city should have their views heard.

“They are the leaders of the future and know what is needed to cater for the needs of our young people,” he says.
