NORTH SHORE CITY

North Shore Police advise that the cause of death of the 20 year old man found in the water by yachties off Takapuna Beach has been confirmed today by a pathologist as being "drowning".

His name still cannot be released as his next of kin in India have not yet been located.  It must be appreciated that India is a vast, populous nation with complex public records, so tracking down a person's family can take some time and the Indian authorities are doing their very best to help.

Police are seeking information from anyone who saw the deceased the afternoon he went missing, Wednesday 3rd October between 2pm and 5-30pm in the vicinity of Milford and Takapuna, possibly near Kitchener Road or the waterfront walkway between Milford Beach and Takapuna Boat Ramp.  He was wearing black clothes, of average height and light build.  He has somehow entered the water, possibly on foot or may have even used one of the older dinghy's or canoes that are often left near the waterfront in that area.
