Hundreds of people turned out in the sun for Brooklands Zoo’s family day on Saturday (27 October).

Free ice blocks and 100 family passes for row-boating on Pukekura Park’s lakes were available, funded by the sale of three boats that had been retired from the park’s small fleet.

Mayor Harry Duynhoven says more than 500 people turned up for the family day.

“We were absolutely flat out handing out ice blocks,” he says.

“There were queues for the ice blocks and the coffees but no one minded as we had struck the best part of the weekend weather-wise, and everyone loved being there in the sun.”

The event had been postponed from the previous weekend due to rain.
