Student's moustache necklaces aid Movember charities

Girls and women can now easily demonstrate their support for the cause behind Movember without attempting to cultivate a mo’ of their own, thanks to a second-year Product Design student from Otago Polytechnic.

20-year-old Daniel Goodman has created Goodman’s Mustache Necklaces with females in mind. He’s partnered up with the Movember charity; a global fundraising phenomenon held each November that sees men grow moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health – and money for prostate cancer and depression charities.

He says for women who cannot lend their support to the cause in the same way men can, there is now an easy and stylish alternative.

“My necklaces are made from laser-cut acrylic and come in five shapes - handlebar, Fu Manchu, Dali, walrus and Stalin,” explains Daniel. “I’ve had heaps of interest from people who want to buy them, which is great. The handlebar is definitely proving to be the most popular style so far.”

Daniel is taking orders for the necklaces through a facebook page, www.facebook.com/GoodmansMustacheNecklaces, donating $2 from each $15 necklace to the Movember causes.

“I approached the Movember team early on when I came up with the concept, and they were really supportive of it,” he says. “It’s cool to be able to create a fun fashion product that is also generating funds for a really worthwhile cause.”
