The man injured in an incident at the Crown Hotel in Temuka on Saturday night [3 November] has died.

Timaru Police advise that the man died at Christchurch Hospital shortly after 8.00am today.

He has been named as Dale Robert Bellaney, aged 39, of Temuka.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill says at this stage Police are treating the man's death as suspicious.

"The focus of our inquiries is on establishing how Mr Bellaney incurred his injuries," she says.

"It is too early to speculate on the details of what has happened in this incident."

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out tomorrow.

Police are continuing to review CCTV footage and interview witnesses to the incident which took place outside the Crown Hotel at around 8.45pm on Saturday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Neill says it is believed a number of vehicles have driven past the hotel around the time of the incident, and Police would like to hear from anyone who has been in that vicinity.

Anyone with information is asked to call Timaru Police on (03) 6884199.
