Christchurch Police are seeking two offenders following the aggravated robbery of a bar in the suburb of Richmond late last night.

Detective James Haigh says two offenders armed with firearms entered the Sideline Bar on Stanmore Road between 11.00 and 11.30pm last night [Wednesday 7 November].

"At the time there were four patrons and two staff members in the bar," he says. "They were forced to lie down and one staff member was ordered to open the safe, and a sum of money was taken.

"The offenders are believed to have left the scene in a white coloured vehicle.

"Fortunately nobody was injured, although the staff and patrons were shaken by the incident."

The offenders are described as being male Maori or Pacific Islanders wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered.

Police are seeking information from the public to identify the offenders and the vehicle involved.

"We urge anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Stanmore Road near North Avon Road between 11.00 and 11.30pm and noticed any vehicle or people fitting the description to contact Police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective James Haigh on (03) 3739118, or Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.
