Great South Road death and serious assault

AUCKLAND

At approximately 11:30am this morning Counties Manukau Police attended a serious assault at a home on Great South Road, Manurewa. When arriving at the scene Police found a woman who had been seriously injured. The woman is now at Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher said “A short distance from the scene, near railway lines a male was found. He is believed to have been involved in the incident. The male was dead on Police arrival and both Police and ambulance staff attempted to revive the male without success.

“Police are not at this time looking for anybody else in relation to the incident.”

Police urge anyone who may have seen a male Indian in his thirties walking along Great South Road, with a bag in his possession to call Police immediately on 09 261 1300 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Disruption was caused to the main trunk railway line as a result of the incident. The railway line has been re-opened with reduced train speeds in the small affected area in Manurewa.
