At approximately 7:05pm on Friday 9th May 2008, a 71 year old male was fatally struck by a vehicle on Earlys Road, Cust, North Canterbury.

He had been a passenger in a vehicle that was towing a load of timber.

This vehicle lost its load of timber and the male exited his passenger side of the vehicle to retrieve some of the timber.

He was struck by a second vehicle that was travelling down Earlys Road in a southerly direction.

He died at the scene from the injuries he received.

His identity has not been released as Police are still contacting relatives.

The investigation is ongoing.
