Paper Plus invites young book lovers to express their opinions through kids choices

PAPER PLUS INVITES YOUNG BOOK LOVERS TO EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS THROUGH KIDS CHOICES
Internationally, New Zealand children rank relatively highly on the literacy scale, with Kiwi kids listed seventh amongst OECD countries. With this in mind it is easy to see how specific book titles have become so popular in this country. From Hairy Maclary to Harry Potter – these title booms have encouraged kids to read to their hearts’ content and let their imaginations run wild.
New Zealand’s largest stationery and bookseller, Paper Plus, is celebrating literacy by inviting young book lovers to get reading and enter the Kids’ Choices competition for a chance to be an official Paper Plus Kids’ Choices reviewer.
Paper Plus is looking for young, creative reviewers aged from 7-10, 11-12 and 13-16 who are eager to take up the challenge of reviewing books for Kids’ Choices. Children are invited to enter the competition by visiting http://www.paperplus.co.nz/books/kids-club/search-for-a-book-reviewer and posting their review of a book they have recently read.
Paper Plus Marketing Manager Lyle Hastings says Kids’ Choices will allow children to tell New Zealand what they think about the books they have read. “It’s a great opportunity for kids to develop not just their reading skills but also their writing ability, by reading and reviewing a book of their choice. It allows kids to really engage with a book’s story line and be able to express how they felt about a book, and why. It is important for kids’ intellectual development to become involved with reading and literature, and Kids Choices promotes this.”
Once entries have closed Paper Plus will be choosing 12 Kids’ Choice reviewers from across the country, who will be sent books each month for reviewing. Each lucky reviewer will have a profile on the Paper Plus website and will be profiled in store and on mailers.
Entries for the Paper Plus Kids’ Choices review close on 14 November 2008.
