At approximately 0100hrs Saturday morning the 20th December 2008, a male aged in his early 20's was found by a passing vehicle lying on the road in Albert Street, Ashburton near the corner of Rapley Street.

Police and Ambulance staff attended the incident and the victim was taken to the local hospital where he died a short time later.

It is believed that the deceased was hit by a vehicle: it appears that this vehicle has failed to stop.
