Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious 2 car accident on the Napier-Taupo road (SH5). This has occured on the Napier side of the Mohaka bridge.
One of the occupants is in a very serious condition with several other with serious injuries.
A helicopter is on its way to help transport the injured to hospital.
It is anticipated that this road will be closed for another hour while the accident scene is cleared.
There is no diversion available in this area.

**Update**
At about 5.15pm this afternoon there was a headon accident between a car and a light truck on the Napier-Taupo Road (SH5). This occured on the Napier side of the Mohaka bridge.
The sole female occupant of the car had to be cut free from the wreckage and is in a very serious condition. The male and female occupants of the light truck have got moderate injuries. All the occupants have been flown by two helicopters to Hawkes Bay Hospital.
The cause of the accident is not known and this is being investigated by the Serious Crash Unit.
The road was closed for 3 hours while the accident scene was cleared. The road is now open (as at 8.15pm)
