Counties Manukau Police are currently investigating a serious assault. The assault took place at approximately 10.00am today at 2/57 Puhinui Road, Papatoetoe.

Area Commander, Inspector Mick Woods, says a female victim aged 42 has sustained serious knife wounds to the upper body. The knife used in the assault has been located at the scene. She is currently at Middlemore Hospital under going surgery.

"A 69 year old male was found dead at the scene. Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident".

"It is understood that the victim and deceased are related", he said.

At present police are talking to several witnesses.
