It’s Astounding! WORLD Premiere of a New Rocky Horror Film THIS SUNDAY!

Time is fleeting…before madness takes its toll; get along to the World
Premiere of An Evening With Richard O’Brien this Sunday, 30th May.

Hosted by the Out Takes Reel Queer Film Festival the film is a
never-seen-before insight into the life and times of Richard O’Brien, the
creator of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The film has its first New Zealand screening on the big screen on Sunday
30th May at 4:10pm at Auckland’s Rialto Newmarket. A repeat screening is
scheduled for Wellington’s Paramount Theatre on Monday 7th June at 4:30pm.

The documentary is the hard work of Waikato filmmaker, Fiona Jackson,
whose Hamilton home has always shown an affinity with one of the city’s
most famous sons, Richard O’Brien.

“To tell this story to the widest possible audience has always been a
dream of mine. I’m so lucky that Richard is supporting me all the way,”
says Fiona.

In the film, Richard O’Brien is interviewed onstage and shares intimate
anecdotes about growing up ‘different’ in 1950s Hamilton, creating Rocky
Horror and the intricacies of Hollywood deal-making. He’s the utmost
performer, entertaining the crowd with song and stories that will have
everyone laughing.

Simon Fulton, the chief programmer of the Out Takes Reel Queer Film
Festival, says seeing Richard O’Brien in action is magical.

“To see a living legend of New Zealand theatre and film sharing his life
so openly and courageously is amazing. Richard is a true entertainer,”
says Simon.

2010 marks thirty-five years since the release of the infamous Rocky
Horror Picture Show film starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon.
Commemorative screenings of that film are already planned in several
cities.

Tickets to the premiere of An Evening with Richard O’Brien are available
for advance purchase from Rialto. Fiona Jackson will be attending the
premiere.
