A man is undergoing hospital treatment after being shot and injured by Police at an address in Otaki this morning (Thursday, 24 February).
Police officers went to an address in Kirk Street, Otaki, at approximately 1am to locate a man wanted to arrest for assault and disqualified driving for an incident that happened in Levin earlier this month.
Inspector Dave White, acting Central Police District Commander, said details of the incident are being investigated. "We know that inside the address there was a confrontation between the 28-year-old man and Police which resulted in the man being shot in the arm."
Medical attention was given by police officers to the man and by paramedics who were called to the scene. The man was taken to Palmerston North Hospital where he is currently in a stable condition. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
A second man aged 31 has been arrested and charged with obstruction. He will appear in the Levin District Court this morning.
A Police investigation into the shooting will now be carried out by officers from Palmerston North and Wanganui, independent of the Levin and Otaki area. The IPCA is also notified as standard practice.
