Framed pictures dropped off walls in large numbers during the recent earthquakes in Christchurch. When staff at New Zealand's largest art print store dealing with hundreds of insurance claims for damaged prints were frequently being asked "How do we re-hang our pictures to minimise the risk of damaged artworks in future quakes?" we wanted to find out more about the seismic performance of picture framing systems on the New Zealand market.
We were surprised to find that even using the most basic picture hanging system there are actually two very simple steps you can take that dramatically minimise the risk to artworks and occupants.
