The Queenstown Lakes District Council has appointed two new directors to the board of the Council Controlled Organisation, Lakes Leisure Limited.
The Council called for expressions of interest in July/August to replace retired/retiring directors Jeff Turner and Jane Taylor.
“We were sorry to lose two long-term board members, Jeff having been involved with the Events Centre since its inception and Jane having formerly chaired the board. Both Jeff and Jane deserve a sincere vote of thanks from the Council and the community,” QLDC chief executive Debra Lawson said.
The call for interest attracted a strong number of applicants. “It’s very rewarding to see Lakes Leisure attract such a high calibre of applicants who are prepared to support and serve this highly valued community organisation,” Ms Lawson said.
After a rigorous selection process the Council appointed Mark Elliott and Wayne Evans to the board.
“Both men bring very different talents to the table and I have no doubt their skill sets will complement those of their fellow board members,” she said.
Mr Elliot had a background in business, sport and medical management and currently held the position of performance director for BikeNZ (World Championship and Olympic Programme) and previously that of performance director for the New Zealand Winter Performance Programme and Triathlon New Zealand. He also currently sits on the board overseeing Coaching Development for New Zealand High Performance Sport.
Mr Evans came from an accountancy background having previously held roles including SBS Branch Manager, ANZ Bank head of marketing, GE Money general manager and currently holds the position of Finance Now Limited chief executive and director. He has sat on a number of boards including his current position on the Sport Southland Regional Sports Trust (deputy chairman).
“We welcome both Mark and Wayne to Lakes Leisure and look forward to their contribution to our community,’ Ms Lawson said.
