Local Hamilton accountant Mark Campbell has an ambitious ride from Cape Reinga to the Bluff to help raise money and awareness for Te Whanau Putahi.
About One man… on a bike… for a cause…
Local Hamilton Accountant, Auditor and family man, Mark Campbell is about to go on the ride of his life. Starting today (Monday 15th November), Mark will begin a 23 day ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff - 2441 kms in all!
As Mark rides he wants to be a signpost directing people to Te Whanau Putahi and their building renovation. This local Family Centre serves as a Social Agency in the Fairfield and Enderley Community of Hamilton. Their Centre is in need of expansion with a new kitchen and respite childcare wing planned.
About the Te Whanau Putahi Building Extension
Te Whanau Putahi has been accommodated in a 1940 scout hall for the last 15 years. The facility is plain but functional and they have no desire to go 'up-market'. However, for two reasons, they need to expand.
For one, they often cater for up to a hundred people at community meals they put on, and their kitchen is inadequate for the purpose; secondly, the Education Review Office has indicated that their Childcare facility is not of sufficient standard for educational purposes.
When they can raise sufficient funds, they will extend our current building but would welcome any help - financial, material, 'in kind', skills, expertise or labour. They are currently over half way to towards reaching the target.
We currently have a page setup to track Marks progress over the next 23 days at Agora Cafe's Website which has snippets of his diary as well as a live Google Map and a facebook page.
