Thousands of people will start rolling into the Wairarapa next week as one of New Zealand’s biggest agricultural events hits Masterton. An action-packed week that includes The National Bank Young Farmer Contest, the TBfree New Zealand Young Farmers Annual Conference and the TeenAg and AgriKidsNZ Grand Finals will kick off from Wednesday June 29th.
The 2011 Grand Final of The National Bank Young Farmer Contest is the culmination of 22 District Finals, seven Regional Finals, thousands of volunteer hours and a whole lot of hard work from Contestants from all over New Zealand. The top seven Young Farmers have now been found and the spotlight will be on them from June 29th as they battle it out in the hopes of being named Contest Champion for 2011.
Friday July 1st will see thousands converge on the Solway A&P Showgrounds to watch the Practical Day where the Contestants will be pitted against each other in a variety of challenges designed to test their skills and knowledge in all areas of the agricultural sector.
The next day the excitement moves to the Wairarapa College Auditorium for the event we grew up watching – the live Televised Grand Final Evening Show where the eventual Contest Champion will be announced.
Also taking place are the TeenAg and AgriKidsNZ Grand Finals on July 1st at the Solway A&P Showgrounds. Over 50 Agri Kids and nearly 30 teenagers will come from as far as Invercargill in the South and Wainui in the North, to show off their farming skills in their own mini versions of the Contest, as they try to become TeenAg or AgriKidsNZ Champions for 2011.
New Zealand Young Farmers Members will also be attending the TBfree NZYF Annual Conference Week where they will take part in workshops, bus trips, fencing competitions and more. Also on the agenda is the Annual General Meeting where new Board Members will be voted in, along with supporting their favourite Grand Finalist at The National Bank Young Farmer Contest events.
