Wairarapa Police are now able to release the name of the hunter fatally shot in the Aorangi Forest Park, near Pirinoa, on Saturday.
He was Alexander Cameron McDonald, know as Cam McDonald, of Auckland.
Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says a post-mortem has begun in Palmerston North a short time ago.
“We have interviewed a number of witnesses over the course of the weekend, including four members of a hunting party who were in the vicinity at the time of Mr McDonald’s death.”
Police would still like to hear from any other hunters who were in the same part of the Aorangi Forest Park on Saturday.
”I’d urge those hunters to come forward and speak with Police as soon as possible, by contacting the Masterton Police Station on (06) 3600 300 .”
Sean Hansen says Police are continuing a full and thorough investigation and no charges have yet been laid.
“The family of Mr McDonald have asked for privacy at this tragic time and we ask that media respect their wishes.”
