HUNTLY

Traffic is again flowing on SH1 at Huntly after the scene of a crash that left two people critically injured was cleared early this evening.

The crash happened outside of the North Waikato town shortly before 3pm and involved a car and a motorbike.

The Waikato Serious Crash Unit has conducted an initial crash analysis and early indications are a southbound car intending to turn across the highway was shunted in the rear forcing it into the path of a northbound motorbike.

A young child, believed to be three and a half-years-old suffered critical injuries in the crash, as did the motorcyclist.

Both victims were transported to Waikato Hospital.

Emergency services were at the scene until shortly before 6pm when SH1 was reopened.

No further details are available at this time.
