In response to Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei's questions in the house this week the Government has now agreed to revisit placements of children and young people and run checks where they were missed.
"The Government has committed to undertaking police checks for all current family group conference placements," said Ms Turei
"This is good news for children and young people who have been placed away from parents through a youth justice programme.
"These youngsters had previously fallen through a policy gap which meant caregivers were not scrutinised," said Ms Turei.
"I am happy that the Government has taken notice of our request to go back and run the checks on those missed.
"The Green Party are keen to see this work get underway as a matter of urgency to ensure those children are safe and remain so."
