Finalists have been determined for Manawatu’s premier celebration of sporting success.
The judging panel for the 2010 Central Energy Trust Sportsperson of the Year awards has selected
finalists for each of the seven major categories.
From an original count of 92 nominees, a total of 45 finalists have been determined for what was yet
another big year for sport in the Manawatu.
There was great difficulty in narrowing down finalists due to the high calibre of nominations across all
categories, despite Commonwealth Games achievements falling outside of the qualification period.*
Sport Manawatu’s Sean O’Connor says, “We were extremely happy with the quality of nominations that
came through, and I certainly wasn’t envious of the judges having to narrow down not only who the
finalists were but also having to select one winner for each category”.
“It was a shame not to be able to include the accomplishments from our athletes at Delhi, but we hope
these will be recognised with nominations for next year’s awards,” Mr O’Connor continues.
The Central Energy Trust Sportsperson of the Year Awards is on Friday November 12 in the Silks
Lounge at the Awapuni Function Centre with tickets now on sale at Sport Manawatu.
