Naenae Station on the Hutt Valley line and Kenepuru Station on the Kapiti Line will be closed between Monday 26 December 2011 and Tuesday 24 January 2012 so essential repair and reconstruction work can be carried out.
The work, being carried out by Aurecon for Greater Wellington Regional Council and KiwiRail, is being done to further ensure passengers’ safety and improve access.
The works at Naenae Station are to be split into two phases, the first of which involves restrengthening the precast concrete platform frontages. The second phase will take place later in 2012 and will involve the demolition and reconstruction of the station building, as well as renovating the access stairs and resurfacing the platform.
The construction work at Kenepuru Station will include resurfacing of both platforms, the replacement of the southbound platform frontage and upgrading the main access path on the southbound side to prevent any further erosion.
There are planned disruptions over the holiday period between Monday 26 December 2011 and Tuesday 4 January 2012, and between Monday 26 December 2011 and Sunday 8 January 2012 for the Hutt Valley line when buses will replace trains. Buses will stop at bus replacement stops at both Kenepuru and Naenae stations.
However, from Monday 9 January to Tuesday 24 January 2012, train services will operate to regular timetables on the Kapiti and Hutt Valley lines. Porirua or Linden stations are the closest to Kenepuru Station and Epuni or Wingate stations are the closest to Naenae Station. Once the train services resume on 9 January, if there are any planned disruptions buses replacing trains will stop at Kenepuru and Naenae stations at the bus replacement stops.
An option for Naenae train commuters, while the station is closed, is to catch the #130 bus from Naenae Station to Waterloo Station.
