Keen to find out how to become a better writer and hear directly from published authors?
Writers’ Week – part of The University of Auckland’s Centre for Continuing Education – is set to kick off on Monday 9 July, offering aspiring and experienced writers an ideal opportunity to enhance their writing skills, develop new writing techniques and receive constructive feedback.
This year’s participants have the choice of four different workshops over a five-day period, each of which is limited to 16 people.
Libby Passau, Programme Manager of The Centre for Continuing Education, says Writers’ Week gives writers the chance to totally immerse themselves in learning about writing.
“If you’re working on a literary project, keen to write historical fiction or want to become a non-fiction writer, our five-day workshops provide an informative and supportive environment with which to hone your skills and help take your writing to another level,” she says.
Workshop options include:
Michelanne Forster was the 2011 Michael King/University of Auckland Writing Fellow and has been awarded a Creative New Zealand grant to write a book about New Zealand playwrights. She and her co-author, Vivienne Plumb, will begin research In July. The book will be published by Playmarket and will feature interviews with twenty top playwrights from around the country.
In addition to the workshops, each morning of Writers’ Week will start with a guest lecture by an Auckland University Press author who will discuss their experience as a writer, the role of writing in their life and the books they have published with AUP. They are Julia Gatley, Jane McRae, David Veart and John Adams.
Each workshop is $349.00 and attendance at the Guest Lecture programme is optional. The cost to attend the Guest Lecture programme only (four lectures), is $23.00.
Friday afternoon concludes with a social gathering where workshop participants and tutors are invited to share refreshments and a selection of readings from work produced during the week.
