War Memorial Clock Tower

The barriers will stay up around the war memorial and clock tower in Seymour Square until the Council is reassured about the safety of its masonry.

Assessment of the earthquake risk of buildings and other constructions is part of the Council's ongoing work.

Engineers made a start on a detailed structural assessment of the stone clock tower this week but their investigation is not expected to be reported back to the Council until teh new year so the cordon will stay in place in the meantime.
