Dr Worth has been a member of the New Zealand Parliament since 1999. He was first elected Member of Parliament for Epsom in 1999 and again in 2002. He was re-elected as a List MP for National in 2005 and 2008.
Prior to his Parliamentary career, Dr Worth was a litigation partner and later chairman for 13 years of New Zealand's largest law firm, Simpson Grierson, specialising in public law, government process and regulation.
Dr Worth has a PhD in Australia/New Zealand trade issues from RMIT University in Melbourne, graduate degrees in law and business administration, and has studied at the University of Texas in Dallas and the graduate business school at INSEAD in France.
He has a keen interest in international affairs and has been Consul for Columbia (1994 to 2000) and Monaco (2000 to 2008). He is a former president of the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association and a former chairman of the India Trade Group Inc and the Korea/New Zealand Business Council.
The Minister has been closely involved for many years in the Order of St John and was recently appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a knight in the Venerable Order of St John of Jerusalem. Dr Worth also served in the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserves for more than 20 years - attaining the rank of Captain. He was appointed an Officer of the British Empire (Military Division) for his services.
In his spare moments Dr Worth enjoys time with his wife Lynne and adult daughter and has a passion for mountain climbing with high altitude ascents in the Eastern Himalayas, the South American Andes and East Africa. He also enjoys Bollywood films, Korean classical music and the early works of Sun Tzu
