New Zealand Leading Taekwond World Champs

New Zealand is the leading nation after two days of the ITF Taekwondo World Championships in Benidorm, Spain.
The team which was the winning country at the previous world championships in Wellington in 2011 has won five gold medals in total, four in the seniors and one in juniors.
There have also been four silver (two senior and two junior)  and eight bronze (five senior and three junior).
Roisin Giles from Mt Roskil in Auckland won the senior individual female 1st Dan Patterns, while Counties Manukau’s Melissa Timperley took away the 3rd Dan Patterns world title.
Counties Manukau competitor, Ethan Parker won the senior individual male 2nd Day Patterns title and taking away the senior power world title was Brenday Doogan also, from Counties Manukau
Sean Neary from Tamaki Taekwondo in Auckland  won the gold medal in the junior individual male special technique.
Other notable results included defending champion, Carl Van Roon finishing with a bronze in the senior individual under 85kg sparring competition.
New Zealand's main competition for medals is coming from Poland, Ireland and Russia.
The World Championships continue until Monday night.
