Future Finance is a Gold Sponsor of the annual Staples Rodway Challenge which took place last month and this year’s charity was Cystic Fibrosis. All funds raised from the event went towards fighting this disease in the local community. Future Finance had 15 staff entered in the teams’ event and three individuals in the 32km walk-run event.

The course is mainly on private land and includes windswept beaches, native forest, waterfalls, river gorges and stunning coastal farmland. The area includes world renowned five star lodge "The Farm", the Cape Kidnappers Wildlife Reserve and the largest gannet colony in the world. More information about these events is available here: http://www.staplesrodwaychallenge.nz/

This is a truly stunning 32km off road running or walking event held in and around the world famous Cape Kidnappers.  This event is open to solo competitors and teams of three (10km, 11km and 11km legs) and crosses over beaches, farm, and bush and features a number of water crossings. Staples Rodway Hawkes Bay has established the "Cape Kidnappers Challenge Charitable Trust" to ensure that all surplus funds go to a nominated charity each year and this year it was Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening genetic disorder affecting New Zealand children, and is an inherited disorder. A baby can only be born with the disorder if both parents carry the abnormal gene. It is not caused by any previous illness suffered by one of the parents or by anything that happened during the mother’s pregnancy. It is non-contagious.

CF affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus. In the lungs this can cause shortness of breath, a chronic cough and repeated chest infections. If the blockages affect the pancreas this will reduce or stop enzymes from being released to digest food, causing problems with poor weight gain and malnutrition due to malabsorption. At present there is no cure for CF, but the affected gene has been identified and researchers are working to find ways to repair or replace it, and medications to treat CF complications.
