From the CEO of the NZ College of Midwives, Karen Guilliland.

The Association of Ontario Midwives is taking court action on behalf of community midwives against their Government under Human Rights legislation grounds of gender discrimination.

New Zealand is hoping to jointly present our respective gender equity actions for midwives with them and British Colombia (who won a pay equity case for employed midwives) at the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) conference in Toronto next year. http://www.internationalmidwives.org/

The association has also released a video to mark Equal Pay Day in their country and they have asked the NZ College of Midwives to share the link as widely as we can. https://youtu.be/XyBejsEdJ5g

Its message is completely transferable to the New Zealand situation and so can I ask that you use it to support the global gender equity movement and promote our case https://www.midwife.org.nz/latest-news/midwives-take-legal-action/ at the same time.

Please encourage NZCOM members and others to share on Facebook and other social media with the heading ‘New Zealand midwives also seeking pay equity…midwives around the world leading the move to close the pay equity gap’.
