Last month Saint Kentigern excelled in three very different areas; at the Big Sing Finale, the North Island Ski Championships and New Zealand Fashion Week’s contest ‘YMCA Walk the Line’, proving once again the broad range of educational activities their schools cover.

The rise of the College's choral programme was substantiated once again by four outstanding recitals at the 2016 NZCF The Big Sing Finale in Dunedin. Culminating in a Bronze Award for the all-comers boys' choir, Menasing, and a Gold award for the premier mixed choir, Kentoris, the competition capped off an exceptional 24 months for the choral programme.

Kentoris impressed the Big Sing adjudicators with stellar performances in the competition in both 2015 and 2016.  In 2015 at the Auckland regional competition - choosing to present a long work and not the three required to be eligible for Finale selection -  the choir won the award for the best performance of a single work. This year they enjoyed unprecedented success winning the award for best mixed choir beating perennial favourites, Choralation (Westlake Boys' and Girls' High Schools) and Fundamentals (Rangitoto College) and in doing so securing a place in the National Finale.  Kentoris presented five works in the Finale, winning four golds in total, one silver and one bronze.

In August the Boys' School became 3rd time North Island Ski Champions, winning the 2016 North Island Primary and Intermediate Schools Snow Sports Championships for the third year in a row, with both A and B teams placed in the top half of the field. Well done to the winning teams!

Last month College Year 12 Fashion and Textile Design Technology students, Larissa Mui and Lucy Scarborough both submitted their original designs for selection, and their garments were chosen as part of the line-up at New Zealand’s most prestigious Fashion Show. They had both worked hard to design and produce garments that are creative and beautiful to look at. Lucy’s dress caught the eye of the judges and won the section, so big congratulations to her. Incidentally, this is the second time a College student has been successful in this competition, with past fashion student, Taylor McDonald being named the overall winner of the Walk the Line in 2014.
