Allied Fastenings are proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the Murray’s Bay Sailing Club, and their Oki 24-Hour Race was recently held on 7-8 March, with the proceeds going towards the ‘Learn to Sail’ programme and coaching of their young sailors.

The Murrays Bay Sailing Club recently wrote to Allied Fastenings, detailing their appreciation of the support they have shown, and went on to say that their support has meant that they have been able to support significant sailing and coaching at the club for their two young sailors in the last 12 months.

This included two ‘Holiday Learn to Sail’ programmes as a ‘taster’ to get involved, four ‘Learn to Sail’ 10-week programmes for beginners and training clinics for Optimist, Starling, P-class, 29ers, Boards and Laser classes. It also includes weekly coaching for Optimist, Starling, P-class, 29ers and Boards.

As the letter said, “The long term support from organisations such as yours is paying dividends with children carrying on from the Learn to Sail programme to join the Optimist fleets. We firmly believe that sailing is a sport for life and it teaches the sailors great life skills, builds lifelong friendships and this is demonstrated by sailing heroes like Sir Peter Blake.”

On the water the MBSC have had some great successes as well, with two representatives to the Optimists Worlds team, one representative to the Optimist North Americans, a National Champion in the Starling class, fifth place in the 29er Worlds, two representatives in the NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team, a top ten ranked Laser sailor, and a No. 1 ranked International 49er FX team.

MBSC have timed the 2015 Oki 24 Hour Race to coincide with the Volvo Ocean Race Auckland stopover, and they are also thrilled to announce that the current Laser World Champion, Nicholas Heiner (NED) has confirmed his entry, and they have heard rumours their own Blair Tuke and Ray Davies are also planning to take on the 2015 Oki 24 Hour Race.

MBSC finished their letter by thanking Allied Fastenings for their past support. To find out more about Allied Fastenings and their infrastructure products, please visit the website at http://www.alliedfastenings.co.nz .
