Gail Jones, owner of Gails of Tamahere, was on hand this week to unveil a new chef for the stunning Waikato-based café and function venue.

The culinary side of the business will now be run by the renowned international chef Richard Cox, who spoke with passion to event attendees about his visions to turn Gails of Tamahere into a hub for young cooks within the Waikato to learn and grow their own ambitions

Richard boasts an impressive amount of experience in the culinary industry worldwide and will take Gails of Tamahere to new heights in providing a high-class dining experience

“I see Gails of Tamahere being able to host young chefs from schools such as Wintec where we can teach them about the industry. I am delighted to be working with Gail and look forward to what the future holds here,” Richard said.

Richard has more than 30 years of experience, including being the house manager of the Governors’ general residence, Government House in Auckland. The talented chef has been a house manager, butler and chef across families in the UK, USA and Spain. He is truly professional and will bring all of his culinary wisdom to the table for Gails of Tamahere.

Gail Jones was delighted with the acquisition of Richard after a long process of trying to find a chef which fitted in with her vision. “I am sure that Richard is the man for the job. I don’t just take anyone but he has really impressed me so far and it makes me dream of where we can go,” she said.

Gail Jones has deep roots within the Hamilton business sector and is well known across the city. She has two businesses, with the café and function venue as well as Gail’s Floral Studio situated on Worley Place in the CBD. The café and function venue is on Devine Road in Tamahere. Gail is best known as an international flower designer, and has been president of the Society of Professional Florists.

Her flowers gained second place at the prestigious Interflora World Cup in Nice, France. She was also invited and refereed of the 2012 edition in China. She is a past president and life member of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce as well.

Gail purchased Gails of Tamahere in 1984 as a venue to grow foliage. The business has come a long way from those beginnings, now being able to seat up to 180 guests for any wedding, funeral or other function. The venue itself includes a beautiful church which was built in Thames and was bought to the venue.

Gails of Tamahere is running a function for Mother’s Day. Gail will be opening her promenade and gardens for the special occasion. The business invites families to treat their Mother on Sunday May 14 at the brunch buffet being run. The buffet costs $39.50 per person with bookings essential and a deposit required. There are three buffet times, 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm to suit those looking to eat at any time from early morning through to the afternoon.

In their licensed pavilion, the team will be serving a delectable range of familiar brunch delicacies in a buffet setting presented by new Head Chef Richard Cox. A specially blended glass of Rose Petal Punch will be served to guests on arrival. This will be followed by fresh fruits, pastries and preserves - hot ham on the bone, succulent turkey and cranberry, delicious salads and accomplishments and a range of brunch bakes and sweets.

After brunch, guests can walk through the gardens and then move on to the colonial hall for complimentary tea, coffee and scones with a musical accompaniment. It will be an event to savor for Mum and the family.
