Many watchers of the last series of The Block NZ, Season Five, 2016 often wondered about “the house in the corner”. It featured in the opening scenes as it sat amongst the building site of The Block.

The house was used as the site office, and remained there throughout the series, being sold when it was no longer required and it is now to undergo its own renovation. The original single level 1940s bungalow located on St Johns Road, Meadowbank has been purchased by Style Plus’ associate architect – Squaretomato.

Style Plus are pleased to have been appointed for the job of transforming this character three bedroom home into a well-appointed commercial architect’s office. Harvey Wang, owner and director of Squaretomato Architects, has created a clever new design and layout for the renovation and will occupy the offices himself.

As usual, Style Plus will provide all the required subcontractors and manage the renovation, from demolition to end, obtaining the council code of compliance (CCC).

The renovation process will transform the living room into a high tech architect office catering for four workstations. Original features within the room will remain.

On first entering the building you will be met with glass walls to the left and right. The left hand side entry will lead you to the architects’ working office where four workstations will be set up. Beyond the communal office is an additional office, set up as the separate IT office. The entry to the right will lead to a conference/meeting room. Once again, the use of glass will provide a sense of space and airiness.

The current bathroom and WC will be transformed into two bathrooms with floor to ceiling tiling and new bathroom fixtures and fittings. What is unique about this renovation is that one bathroom will serve the office and the second bathroom will serve the crèche / baby room located to the rear of the building.

The current kitchen/laundry area will be combined to form the new kitchen / office lunch room, and a new modern kitchen will be installed with dining table and seating. Internal timber shutters are to be used instead of drapes.

At Style Plus they have a great team comprising of architects, North Shore Auckland based certified builders and subcontractors, working together to design and deliver your renovation or new build to your specification, budget and time frame. They specialise in all types of building services from kitchen renovations and bathroom renovations to full home renovations and new builds.
