TAUPO

Following unprecedented demand, NDuro events are delighted to announce that a further (and final) 200 entry spots have been secured for the 2017 Craters Classic.

Astoundingly, the initial allocation sold out a full 6 weeks ahead of the event. And it has only been generous collaboration with land owners that has allowed for the expanded field.

“We’re thrilled with the response” said race Director Tim Farmer. “There’s a real demand for single lap XC style events, and the numbers highlight what we’ve known for some time. That the Craters of the Moon riding area provides some of the best trails you’ll find anywhere for XC style riding. It’s an ever evolving network, and we’re constantly tweaking the course layouts to take in the best of it. The Competitors really enjoy that, and its testament to the hard work of Bike Taupo, the Taupo Mountainbike Club, and everyone involved.”

Thrilled, but possibly not so surprised.

As a venue, it’s a location tough to beat. Just 5mins drive from the Taupo CBD, and based in the amazing geothermal landscapes of the Wairakei Resort, the Craters Classic takes place on the ever expanding maze of fun and flowing trails that makes up the Crater’s network.

Trails that are really achievable for all, yet more become challenging the harder you ride. Rewarding smooth and efficient riding, they can always be relied upon to provide close and exciting racing. An appeal that has seen the event more than triple in size in just 2 years, and rapidly develop into one of the must-do events on the NZ MTB calendar.

On offer are 3 different event distances. The family friendly 12km. Mid-course challenge of 25km. Or the opportunity to step up to the feature event, the 35km long course. Something for everyone? Not quite…. But the innovative recent introduction of an E-Bike category should ensure that nobody misses out.

“The Taupo region has some of the highest sales of e-bikes in New Zealand. As an event provider we always try and cater for all parties. For some time, we’ve been aware of individuals eager to enjoy our event experience, but who have been unable due to medical conditions, or injuries. We hope this addition to the program really removes all barriers to participation,” explains Farmer.

And it’s all set in one of the most unique event locations going. The grounds of the Wairakei Resort. Not only will competitors enjoy fantastic singletrack amongst high quality fields; but the “aftermatch” facilities are second to none.

Accommodation right on the startline, access to the garden lounge bar, great music, and even use of the heated resort pool. More than a race, “Craters” is an event, an experience, and the ideal active winter weekend getaway.

500 riders can’t be wrong. The Craters Classic. A unique MTB event not to be missed.
