Did you know that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in NewZealand men, causing 600 deaths each year? And that 1 in 8 Kiwi men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their life?

While doctors don’t know exactly what causes prostate cancer, they have however found some risk factors including age, family history, obesity, exercise and diet.

With diet, research has shown that prostate cancer rates appear to be lower in men who eat foods containing certain nutrients including lycopene, found in cooked tomatoes and other red fruit, and selenium, found in brazil nuts.

Blue September is the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s national awareness campaign and we here at Intenza support this cause each year including their efforts to get the word out about this dangerous disease. Deaths from prostate cancer can be prevented if it’s detected early enough.

So, whether you buy a blue ribbon, paint your face blue, donate money to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or even just tell people about it, you will be helping to lower the death rate and reduce the suffering caused by this disease.

At Intenza we have written some articles to help inform men about prostate health.
