In New Zealand we all share our majestic beaches, rivers, lakes and coastlines, and     heading into summer, and with so many water enthusiasts on the water – it’s a good time to focus on your safety on the water. Before heading out check MET service for weather conditions, and check in with your local harbour master.   If you are heading into a populated area, check if any special events such as swim events, and sailing regattas are on.

The Auckland Transport website has excellent information on water safety, jetski registration, and harbour events that cover Auckland, Northland and Bay of Plenty region.   Waikato Regional Council look after Waikato and Taupo.

Your jetski will have built-in safety features such as a keyfob remote to activate and reactivate ignition, a tow eye for towing, and boarding-steps to step up onto the jetski.   For extra safety you can add navigational lights and GPS equipment to track your position, and life-jackets and vests are an absolute must for you and your passengers.  Watercraft World stock a range of styles, colours and sizes catering for infants, right up to size 3XL. For added safety, helmets and goggles provide good wind protection and increase your ride comfort.

Be aware of the speed rules of a maximum of five knots when:

Within 50 meters of another vessel, craft or person (i.e. no wake riding close to vessels).

Within 200 metres of shoreline.

Within 200 metres of vessel / craft flying the white and blue diving signal flag.

Inshore of yellow buoys marking the five knot area.

With so much excitement on the water, if the weather turns quickly, or you extend your day’s outing – it’s a good plan to carry adequate clothing, food and water, and you should keep your phone and keys in a watertight bag.

Be courteous to others, there’s plenty of water space to share out there.   So, this summer, keep you, your friends and family safe and enjoy yourself on the water.

Watercraft World Super Centre are your number one Auckland jetski dealer.  Stockists of the latest model Yamaha Waverunners, they also carry a range of pre-loved jetskis across all models. With excellent workshop experience they provide service, repairs, engine rebuilds and insurance quotations.
