Just over two years’ ago Plume Vineyard Restaurant introduced their very first Sangiovese 2014 vintage, to add to their already very impressive wine list. Their small block of 20 plus year old Sangiovese vines based on the Plume Restaurant plot lies to the south of Matakana, some 65 kilometres north of Auckland.  This north facing boutique vineyard has nurtured the vibrant varietal flavours, that the Plume team hand tend and hand pick, giving their wines such a distinctive character.

Sangiovese is a dark purple tinged wine showing classic varietal traits of bright red and black fruits, cedar, cinnamon and 5-spice with a palate bursting with wild berry flavours and fine grained tannins wrapped around a classic Sangiovese brightness.  Supple and vibrant with its core of fruitfulness, it is intrinsically a food wine that will compliment and highlight a variety of classic dishes.

Plume Vineyard Restaurant’s menu changes seasonally to capture the very best of the seasonal produce from local purveyors, and vegetarian options are always available. While Plume’s menu essentially reflects local cuisine it also celebrates New Zealand’s cultural diversity and new thinking based in an essentially rural vineyard setting. Plume Restaurant’s dishes fuse the flavours of global kitchens with New Zealand’s own traditional heritage and their menu reflects this philosophy.

With an open style kitchen where the chefs are an integral part of their guests’ experience their wait staff’s friendly youthful rural bent is backed by a genuine desire to make their clients’ visit a memorable one. Their chefs prepare everything in the kitchen from scratch and their focus is on fresh, seasonal produce set within a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Being a vineyard restaurant Plume provides its wines for weddings and other special occasions and guests can enjoy some of the finest wines in New Zealand on that special day, produced only a stone’s throw away which becomes an essential part of the whole experience. Plume’s passion for wine drives them to create a truly iconic red wine that is appreciated amongst the world’s most discerning wine drinkers.

With their venue being in such high demand for weddings, the friendly team at Plume suggest that anyone intending to get married in 2019 book in as soon as possible as they are already taking bookings for the  summer. The same applies to 2018 winter weddings.
