The Floral Studio sponsorship of International Women’s Day and Zonta Yellow Rose Day. International Women’s Day and Zonta Yellow Rose Day always occur on 8 March, and this year, in conjunction with Elizabeth Arden and Zonta Auckland, the Floral Studio provided the Yellow Roses awarded this year to outstanding leaders in sport, representatives of the Black Ferns, Not for Profit sector, Leonie Morris of the Auckland Women’s Centre, the Educational Community, Karen Donnelly of Eden Campus, Teen Parent Schools and advocacy on behalf of women, Dr Marilyn Waring CNZM.

Participation in the event and speaking was Latayvia Tuaiasea Taufai, representing the National Council of Women, who this year celebrate 100 years of advancing the rights of New Zealand women within this country and on the global stage, Rez Gardi, Young New Zealander of the Year 2017, Michelle Kidd QSM of the Te Rangimarie Charitable Trust and Pippa Coomb Chair of the Waitemata Local Board, the Board responsible for the refurbishment and development of the Helen Melville centre.

New Zealand women have much to celebrate but we cannot become complacent or rest on our past achievements. We must be restless for more change, addressing the inequalities being a female on this planet currently represents. “Until we are truly equal, Zonta and similar like-minded organisations will be busy relentlessly pursing change,” said Irene King, President of Zonta Auckland.

The significance of Zonta Yellow Rose:
A traditional symbol of friendship
Sending messages of joy
Used since 1999
Zontians worldwide are encouraged to distribute yellow roses and items bearing images of yellow roses. The rose is normally accompanied by information and issues relating to improving the lives of women. The rose is presented to guest speakers at Zonta club nights, and the rose is also presented to Zontians who have volunteered significant time to advancing women’s issues, such as organising the International Women’s Day event.

Irene King, a Director and owner of The Floral Studio actively supports the initiatives of District Sixteen of Zonta (ie the New Zealand District) and engages in regular fundraising and promotional events for Zonta Auckland. The next Zonta Auckland event is an evening with Liz Mitchell. This will occur on 14 March and costs $65.
