The Good Electrical team report that there’s been a definite change in the air in the last few weeks. The kids have gone back to school, the nights are drawing in, and our summer clothes have gone back into hiding in our wardrobes. We are lucky here in New Zealand; sunny days tend to linger a little longer into our autumn.

At Good Electrical, it’s been a busy start to the year, and they’ve been working away at fine-tuning their Workplace Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS).  As Master Electricians, it’s important they keep this up-to-date and current, as they are regularly audited as part of the ME Quality Assurance programme.

Master Electricians is the professional trade organisation for electrical contracting businesses in New Zealand, and as a Master Electricians member, Good Electrical can provide a $20,000 workmanship guarantee to safeguard the quality of their workmanship.

Another exciting thing happening at Good Electrical is that they have a Gateway student joining them for one day a week. Gateway gives secondary school students the opportunity to gain experience in their chosen field, making the transition into the workplace a little easier.

Good Electrical advise that with winter approaching, it’s a good time to check your electrical appliances - in particular electric blankets, clothes dryers and heaters - for wear and tear.  Your heater may require cleaning, especially fan heaters. They recommend that you first, unplug the heater and simply vacuum the inlet and outlet grills to remove dust. However, the heater should not be dismantled for cleaning.

Likewise, electric blankets should be checked for damage before they are used - check the control switch, cord and plug.  Look for any kinks, worn wires, scorch marks, or breaks in the heating element. Remember, electric blankets have a limited life and if there’s any doubt about their safety, you should replace them.

The Good Electrical team hope the start to your New Year has gone well too, and wish you all the best for getting prepared for winter!
