Papakura dog owners can reduce the cost of single or multiple dog ownership and registration by sitting and passing a dog owner licence course.

The courses covers registration, dog control, caring for dogs, the bylaws that cover dog ownership in the district and disease awareness. The course handbook also includes a handy self-test.

Holders of Dog Owner Licences qualify for significant reductions in dog registration fees. A Dog Owner Licence is a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to apply for a multiple dog ownership licence.

The standard fee for a single-dog registration in Papakura is $94.00; a Dog Owner Licence reduces this to $52.

All current-year registrations are due before August 3, after which fees rise to $140 (standard) and $78 (Dog Owner Licence).

Courses are held at Elizabeth Campbell Centre Hall in Great South Road. Courses start at 6.00 pm. Course dates are 18, 23, 25 and 30 July.

Appointments for the courses can be made by phoning Animal Control Services on 360 0750.
