Ticket refunds to be given to all purchasers.

Due to lack of ticket sales the Pohutukawa Festival event ‘Meet the Authors’ in Tairua on Sunday 7 December has been cancelled.

For a $30 ticket participants were invited to meet four authors - three of whom reside on the peninsula - Des Hunt, Dawn McMillan, Tracey Slaughter and Rosemary McLeod. The event gave people a chance to listen to the authors speak, have books signed by them, enjoy afternoon tea and wine and nibbles on the Paku Bay waterfront after the event.

Sponsorship was provided by the New Zealand Book Council and the authors’ individual publishers while Carson’s Book Shop in Thames was also in support.

An event co-ordinator Belinda Muir says the threshold of minimum tickets sales was just short. “We would like to have something similar in the near future but unfortunately we couldn’t get the numbers this time around.

“We felt we had a good programme and good value for money but it may be a sign of the times.

“We can’t point a finger anywhere for the lack of ticket sales, it has been widely promoted and there was a lot of support for the event by sponsors and friends of the Tairua Library who agreed to be volunteers on the day. The whole aim of the event was to raise money for the Tairua Library for book purchases.”

Those who have purchased tickets can get refunds from the place of purchase.
