Nelson Police are advising friends of Aaron Chalmers-Hill, the 21 year old victim from last Sunday's fatal motor accident in Upper Moutere, not to break the law in honouring his memory.

The victim's funeral is due to be held this Friday.

Acting Area Commander, Detective Inspector John Winter, said police had received intelligence that the deceased's friends and other associates were planning a mass drive-past of the scene at Upper Moutere and were also keen to conduct 'burn-outs' at unspecified locations following the funeral.

Detective Inspector Winter said police would be closely monitoring any activity and any driving offences would be immediately dealt with in a zero-tolerance approach.

He said it was highly inappropriate for such unlawful activity to take place given the recent event that took a young man's life.

His friends needed to reconsider their approach and show more respect to the deceased's family.

The investigation into the fatal accident continues.

The surviving passenger from the crashed vehicle remains in a serious condition in Nelson hospital and has been unable to be spoken to.
