The upgrade of Hutt City’s CBD has won silver in the urban landscape design category at the NZILA 2010 Resene Pride of Place Landscape Awards.

Hutt City Council partnered with architects Isthmus Group, technical consultants GHD and local manufacturers to deliver an enhanced pedestrian shopping area in High and Margaret streets with distinctive paving, lighting and street furniture.

The award recognised the high quality design and use of enduring and adaptable materials in the project.

Mayor David Ogden thanked the community and local businesses who worked with council to deliver such a great result.

The upgrade was completed in October 2008 and cost $2.4 million.

“Quality design is a key focus of the upcoming CBD Making Places projects.

“We want to continue to make the CBD an attractive and vibrant place for people to live, work and shop, and for businesses to invest.”

The High Street upgrade was among nine winners from a record total of 127 entries for the biennial award.
