A quick response by Porirua Police overnight has nabbed two alleged theft ex-car offenders, well known to Police.

Senior Sergeant Derek Chapman says shortly after midnight, Police received two calls in quick succession from Plimmerton residents. The first call came from a resident in Steyne Avenue, who saw a man breaking into a car then running off.

"The second call came from a Motuhara Road resident who had heard noises outside their house."

Senior Sergeant Chapman says Police sent out patrols to locate the alleged offenders vehicle, which was located about 12:15am in Titahi Bay.

Two local men are in custody to appear in the Porirua District Court later this morning.

"Last night's arrests are a great result for the community. Police were able to act quickly to these two calls. I hope this encourages local residents who do see or hear suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to phone Police as we are and do respond quickly where we are able."

Police will be reviewing other theft ex-car files that remain unresolved.
