Upper Hutt assault victim dies

UPPER HUTT

The victim assaulted in Main Street, Upper Hutt in the early hours of this morning has died (Sunday).

The 26 year-old had his life support turned off this afternoon and died at 4:10pm.

Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson says the victim was walking along Main Street, near Princes Street in Upper Hutt, after leaving a bar around 1am this morning.

"The victim was then assaulted, suffering serious head injuries.

"Police will complete the scene examination this evening in Main Street, Upper Hutt, and the cordon will be lifted at that time. Around 20 Police investigators are working on the investigation."

Detective Inspector Thomson says there were people present who will have witnessed what has happened this morning. I urge those people to come forward as soon as possible.
