New Zealand tennis player Rubin Statham couldn’t quite close out the match in the doubles final at the US$15,000 Futures tournament in Wellington.

Statham and Australian partner, Nima Roshan, the tournament second seeds had equaled the set scores at 6-4 a piece but when it came to the match tiebreak it was the top seeded Australians Brydan Klein and Dan Propoggia all the way as they won the match tiebreak 10-1.

The women’s doubles final of the US$25,000 Conifigure Express Pro was a more straightforward contest as the unseeded teens, Timea Babos(Hungary) and Tammi Patterson(Australia) defeated the second seeded Aussie pair of Jarmila Groth and Jade Hooper 6-3 6-2.

Babos, 17 is one of the world’s best juniors and was in the final of three junior Grand Slams this year and is surely a name for the future with an aggressive all-court game.

The men’s and women’s singles semifinals start from midday on Saturday with the finals to be held from midday on Sunday
